Ericsson has just inked a deal with China Mobile to expand GSM coverage in 19 regions of China. The deal is worth $1B and will provide China Mobile with the equipment necessary to increase the coverage of the wireless operator’s network. The equipment is already under-way and is expected to boost network capacity and performance for hundreds of millions (now that‘s a lot of subscribers) of China Mobile subscribers.
Ericsson will supply core and radio network equipment, along with related technical support and services, to expand China Mobile’s GSM coverage, Ericsson said in a statement.
In other news, Sony Ericsson and China Postel Mobile Communications Equipment have signed a $600M deal to supply Sony Ericsson’s handsets.
