The South Korean company that redefined what it means to be a “candybar” phone (yes, we know it’s a slider – just play along, ok?) has announced they’ve inked a deal with YouTube to bring an exclusive YouTube-compatible handset to Europe in 2H 2008. The joint venture will realize a handset that allows YouTube users to upload, view and share video clips.
LG’s announcement comes hot on the heels of their latest Google Phone – the LG KU580 Chocolate phone. The handset manufacturing company seems bent on aligning itself with the web’s big-hitters. With Google and YouTube on it’s side, LG seems poised to bring a new world of features and functionality to the mobile industry.
Thus far, there aren’t too many phones out there that can actually play YouTube’s embedded videos (iPhone fans are all too aware of this problem) – so a purpose-built phone from LG is an exciting proposition for YouTube fans. With over 70,000 user-created videos already uploaded to YouTube, there’s sure to be a healthy supply of user-created content to keep YouTube phone-users entertained for a good long time.
