Sprint Nextel’s earnings dropped 94% and they blame their WiMAX roll out

sprint2.jpgSprint Nextel had a tough second quarter this year. Sepnding a little over $50 million on their WiMAX network resulted in a profit of just $19 million or a penny per share. Will it pay off? Tough to tell, but they plan on spending a total of $1 Billion on WiMAX in 2007. Testing will happen in Chicago, Baltimore and Washington by the close of this year.

    Did you see the news Nokia is going to bring out a N800 version with WiMax? That will be sweet, and I live in DC too.. yeah! :)

    And Nokia also a long time ago announced they will be bring WiMax phones to Sprint as well.. that should be interesting. The Sprint phones I’ve seen (have not actively checked though) all look hideous, like blasts from the past in design etc.
