While the European Union can already boast of having more mobile phones in their country than actual human beings (their mobile penetration was recently pegged at 103%), the US is lagging pretty far behind. Still, for the behind-the-times US wireless market, hitting 84% market penetration by year-end and 100% penetration by 2013 is quite a feat.
SNL Kagan not only predicts 100% penetration in the US by 2013, they are also counting on wireless carriers making more money from data usage – increasing Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) about 1.5% over the next 10 years .
The data market looks to be the most promising revenue stream for carriers. No wonder we’re seeing the likes of Sprint dumping huge wads of cash into their 4G high-speed data network – XOHM, anyone?
