First Sony Ericsson W580i shipments with faulty keypad

The first shipments of the Sony Ericsson W580i were found to be faulty with several thousand devices coming with keypads prone to cracking. According to one Carphone Warehouse salesperson, the W580i’s keys were splitting and the first three phones they’ve sold were all returned.

Naturally, the Swedish-Japanese handset maker reacted promptly and the later W580i shipments have been stopped in transit to ensure they did not go out. Anyone who had a problem with their W580i keypad should contact the manufacturer for a replacement.

I just hope this wasn’t the error caused by the shake feature, as I find that as one of the key selling points of the W580i! And of the W910i, of course…

I have the 580i and my buttons are cracked.. Plus the shake feature does not work!!! Weren’t these issues supposed to have been taken care of long ago??? GRRRR!!

my bro got the black w580i less than a week ago and alredey the 1+3 keys have cracked i got the urban gray w580i a month ago and the keys have not cracked yet

its not the keys cracking so much as it is the metallic orange paint over the plastic keypad. Any one have a problem with the slider mechanism jamming and not closing or opening entirely or at all? It has nothing to do with the keys- its loosely placed screwes that come up and get stuck in the sliders

Dont bother with this phone especially on orange!! had 3 in a month witht the 3rd one broken and keys cracked in under a week or stopped working completely…..orange refuse a refund on 3rd phone! it is a nightmare to own so seriously i advise NO ONE to buy this sh1t phone

I also had the cracked keypad problem in my black w580i phone… Just gave the mobile in the service centre… The problem was fixed in jus 4 days… My phone is working good… Both the upper and lower keypads are replaced with new ones…

now on my 4th handset.
virgin keep replacing but wont give me diff model phone unless this one breaks. why dont s.e just recall all old ones? arghhhhhhhh

hiya i have this phone its shit the keys just crack and also the slider dosent work all the time i do recommened for girls the k850i sony ericsson pink & gold or u can get it in velvet blue its soo lush n well good.x

well if it happens to mine i will do my fucking nut !!! sum said get a cover for it and charge it with the slider up because of the heat my w850i was dropped in tea and still trys to work just battery is naffed !!
