Samsung Croix may be the Samsung F700 Ultra Smart using the Croix UI

Could we have another iPhone-fighter getting prepped in Samsung’s R&D department? Well, if this newest rumor pans out, the Samsung Croix could be the South Korean mobile phone maker’s answer to Apple’s iPhone. The full-face touchscreen toting Samsung Croix is based on the Croix user interface that recently won the iF Communication Design Award 2007. Croix is a finger-based touch-input UI that uses a system of menus and lists in a “cross” layout (“croix” means “cross” in French, by the way).

We’re not sure if the mockup that you see in these pics are accurate, but this thing definitely looks like the Samsung F700 “iPhone Fighter” that we brought you previously. Could Samsung be prepping the Ultra Smart F700 with a Croix interface and renaming it as the Samsung Croix? Possibly.

With an award-winning touch-input UI and a slide-out QWERTY-keyboard, the Samsung Croix F700 could be the iPhone killer that everyone is waiting for. Combining innovative finger-input with actual hard-keys could be just the formula that could prove to best Apple’s iPhone. But, as with all rumors, we’ll justhave to wait and see.

Keep reading for more pics of the Croix UI in action.
