More information is coming on that leaked Nokia E51 picture released yesterday. People asked where is the applications key and the answer might surprise you, it has been rebranded. It is now the home key. Say goodbye to the button above and hello to the button below:

This is a change that will upset S60 die hards, but it will probably be the best thing that can happen for Nokia and their latest efforts into simplifying the user interface. No word on release date for the E51, but if history shows us anything then once an image is leaked we can expect the device to hit the street within 3 months. I’m hoping that this new key manifests itself across all other S60 based devices. I always thought the application key was a little ugly duckling on an otherwise beautiful device. I do admit, I grew up on a Handspring Visor (Palm device) so I’m a little biased into preferring their home key:

Nothing can touch the once loved Palm based devices Sony made however:

I will miss the iconic aplication key. It was way better than just having “aq little house” It was what set apart phones from spmartphones ;)

But if it is for the better, than be it.
