Apparently, we’ll have to wait more for Palm’s next generation OS. According to a scathing report in The Guardian, the Treo maker is now projecting a 12- to 18-month wait on the new, Linux-based version of its OS. Palm has been working on the new OS for the last 5 years, whereas others mobile OS developers were more effective — Windows Mobile, Symbian, RIM, various flavors of mobile Linux… I just don’t get it, why they don’t license some other OS — not just Windows Mobile — and go to the market that way. That makes the margins even thinner, but if everything is packed correctly, makes the cash flowing as it should. With its Garnet Virtual Machine, Access’ ALP seems like a logical choice. There’s also Symbian OS with UIQ if they want a touch-based input. Not to mention existing mobile Linux solutions. C’mon Palm wake up, there’s a room waiting for you on the market, but it won’t wait forever…
