AU Optronics’ new LCD panel is thinner than thin

AU Optronics announces new super thin LCD panelNot to be outdone by LG Philips’ announcement of their Narrow-Bezel technology, AU Optronics has announced their new super-thin LCD panel. The new LCD screen is the “world’s thinnest 1.9-inch mobile device panel.”

Measuring an almost non-existent 0.69mm in thickness, the 1.9-inch LCD panel is about “13-percent slimmer than a credit card.” Think about that for a second.

Right, so the LCD panel is freakin’ thin, and it weighs in at a paltry 2.2-grams while registering 400 nits on the brightness-o-meter. With uber-thin mobile phones approaching single-digit thickness in the mainstream, the LCD panel-thickness really starts to come into play. With AU Optronics’ new LCD technology, we could see the next generation of slim-line cellphones hit new highs (or lows, depending on how you look at it).

Like they say, “You can never be too thin.”
