Look what we’ve found this morning on YouTube. It’s the iGadgetLife‘s video that compares two Nokia’s high-end smartphones – N95 and its successor N95 8GB. There’s no doubt the latter is a more powerful device. It has a larger screen, more RAM, better battery, boots faster and let’s not forget that sexy multimedia menu. That doesn’t mean the N95 is bad at all, it’s just that if you want a new Nokia smartphone, save a little and get yourself the eight gig version… Enjoy the 9-minute long video.

I’ve had a N95 8GB for a week and all I can say is that I am close to selling it on ebay. The Battery is so so poor and the GPS didn’t lock on once

  • Jeff

Hehe ok “SE” i almost belive you

  • Chris P

SE if my N95 gets a lock in 20 secs average, then I suspect the N95 8Gb will! Have you tried turning on AGPS – it makes a big difference.

Reply to SE: I’ve had my N95 8GB for a couple of weeks now and i can’t fault it. i was a little wary about getting it after reading about the problems with the ‘old’ N95, but decided to take a chance – and i’m so glad i did. It has never crashed, so the firmware seems to have been sorted. The battery hardly seems to go down at all during a normal day (calls, texts, web browsing, pics, videos – i’ve been using them all). You just need to take the usual steps of turning off apps like 3g and WLAN search when not required. It’s a fantastic phone/camera..etc…etc… and i would def reccommend it. An iPhone-beater? I think probably yes!

For the cell phone start-up issue, I try to swith-off my N95-1, then just make a quick match with those phones from the video. But eventually, the start-up time for mine is even quicker than N95-8gb in that video. So I just think if the cell which carries many applications and even bigger save card, the loading time for the phone should be longer than usual thou……So it’s definitely not the case the N95 8gb is faster than the original N95 in terms of CPU speed.

i don’t know why you are trying to downgrade the standard n95 as it is not as slow as you made it out to be, it doesn’t crash if you upgrade the software, you can open alot more applications then they have shown us on this clip (thats probably why the video was edited there) and you can get the black case for the standard n95, the camera on the standard one has a cover to protect it i dont see the new 1 having it, as for the fact it has only got a 64 mb ram how much more do you need to run applications, it’s got an 8gb internal memmory what will happen when the 10 gb micro sd cards come out it aint even got a slot for it.
I have brought the n95 8gb and have owned the standard n95, as far as i have tested these phones my standard n95 was much better, the battery lasted alot longer on the standard n95. the screen is only 0.2″ bigger.
i made a mistake of selling it on ebay those of you who own one trust me theres no need to go for the n95 8gb people who have brought one have been mugged like me!! nokia have only introduced this because sales were slowing down and they haven’t got the technology to make a phone thats better then the n95. so if you are thinking of buying one think again!!!!

To nawaz: I think you are maybe missing a couple of points here: Having more ram on the 8gb HAS to be a good thing when runnning multiple apps. The battery life is much better than the old N95 – it’s a new and more powerful battery and i have compared usage and battery life with friends who have the old one. They have to charge theirs every day – i don’t. The screen may only be 0.2″ bigger, but bigger is better, right?!? As for putting an 8 or 10gb card (if/when available) in to the old N95: this will, inevitably, run slower than the same or similar amount of internal memory – and by the time any N95 8gb users are thinking about more memory they’ll be ready to upgrade their phones anyway, and i’m sure a version with more memory (and functions) will be available by then! My advice is that same as that on the original post – get the 8gb and you won’t be disappointed!

Hi guys, after reading all this (thank you btw :) I leaning towards the n95 8gb. BUT can you describe please if there is any difference between those two in their sound quality? is the n95 8gb better?

  • Colin R

    To: diLin:

From your smiley i’m assuming that you have realised that the post referred to is rather tounge-in-cheek. It is by someone trying desperately, but not particularly seriously, to portray the ‘classic’ as better than the 8gb, against the facts. I think the underlying tone of his post is that while there are a few things about the ‘classic’ which may be seen to be better (the video editing and lens-cover), trying to say that the classic is better than the 8gb really is clutching at straws…

  • John

    To: diLin:

First, thank you for the link but I find the reference points in that post pretty negligible.
After all it is also an mp3 player and also a cellphone (eventually, I have to use it for communication  ), so how is the sound quality? have any post on that maybe?

  • nita

Great info. One ? tho, will there be N82 for the US?

  • asd

n95 now has demand paging so no problem with free ram
n95 8gb has bigger screen ,but same resolution…not so good
n95 8gb has 1200MAh battery but, it has bigger screen 2,8″,more RAM 128…so in fact its the same on battery as n95-1 ,64RAm smaller screeen 2,6″ ,950 MAh battery
and most important at least for me…n95-1 has camera shutter and lens protection
n95 8gb has a plastic protection in front of lens ,so whent that protection scraches
    imagine how photos will look
