People in Australia (and all around the world) are relying on their mobile phones more than ever. One solid indicator of the mobile phone usage is the number of fines issued to people who use their mobile phones while driving.

Driver mobile fines hit $7m in Australia

According to Office of State Revenue, during the period between 2002 and 2003, just 12,812 mobile phone fines were issued – worth $2,818,640. On the contrast, over the past five years with the 30,782 fines, State Treasury managed to collect $7,118,727! That’s Australian Dollar but what the heck, it’s a steady source of income, don’t you think?

Hey, officer, “leave the drivers alone…” :)

  • tsk tsk

what a stupid calculation. stupid article. there are around 13.000 people fined for use of mobile while driving between 2002 and 2003.

for the last five years it has been calculated to 31.000. so averagely its 6200 each year!!! improving the number of fines by 50%.
