Nokia Eco Sensor concept

While the rest of Nokia’s R&D staff are probably busy cranking out S60 Touch-related demonstrations for the CES 2008 conference in a few weeks, the futurists in Espoo have come up with this touch-esque concept you see here. The Nokia Eco Sensor concept is a mobile phone, that much is obvious. But it also packs in a suite of sensors to monitor your health as well as your environment, like the name suggests – which makes it obvious as well.

Anyway, Nokia Eco Sensor concept works in tandem with a remote sensor-unit that is worn on the wrist or around the neck – dangling from a strap made of eco-friendly solar cells. The sensor pack can be customize with a suite of sensors to monitor anything from your vitals to ambient temperature and pollution levels. Perfect for slowing down your heart rate in order to limit your daily carbon output.

All materials used in the super-green Eco Sencor concept are to be made using eco-conscious fabrication methods – recycled goods, printed circuits, and bio-materials. The Nokia 3110 Evolve was a good eco-start, we’re hoping Nokia takes it to the next level with the Eco Sensor.

and you really want to call this “not catching up soon” will and co?

The ideas are there, the designers are most definitely there and all that’s left is for the balls to be there to rip this off the drawing board and into production. The tech is there.

I mean, look at it, its beautiful and possible.

I’m not sure to what you are referring, but I agree that this is definitely a cool looking phone. Let’s hope some aspects of it make it into production with an S60 Touch OS.

On the flip-side, I don’t know if I want my phone telling me by body fat percentage or warning me to stop drinking gin and tonics

aprurvajk: this is a concept phone – and is not planned for production. We can only hope that it will influence future handset design.

I really like the look of that interface, much better than the standard black and turquoise thing we’ve seen so far. Let’s hope it finds it’s way to Touch or someone mods it in.
