Three Nokia N82 colors - pic 1

After running the series of photos comparing the N95 8GB with N96, and N78 with N82, it’s the “pure N82″ time only. Three Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N82 versions are on display - black, white and the silver one. It’s much easier to pick the favorite color this way, even though I guess most of you folks prefer the black one. Am I right?

Wimbledon 2008

Gameloft, which Tennis Open 2007 is still one of the best mobile sports games, announced that it will bring the official Wimbledon 2008 mobile game just in time for the Grand Slam tournament.

The game will feature both singles and doubles modes on clay, grass and synthetic surfaces, and there are five training mini-games designed to help you improve your serves, ground-strokes and volleys. In addition, thanks to the official tournament license, Wimbledon 2008 will also include an extra Wimbledon Championships history section, from where you’ll be able to learn interesting facts from the tournament’s past, as well as test your own Wimbledon knowledge.

What can I say more - as soon it’s out, I’ll try it. If you enjoy playing or watching tennis, I suggest you do the same…

Cuban operator reports 7,400 new mobile phone accounts

By Dusan Belic on Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 at 6:49 PM PST

Cuban cigars

Recently, Cuba’s only telephone company reported that 7,400 new mobile phone accounts have been contracted in the 10 days since all Cubans were allowed to sign up for the service.

Previously, mobile phones were offered only to foreigners or Cubans in top government positions or jobs with foreigners. However, that haven’t stopped many clever Cubans to get mobile phones through contracts foreigners opened for them.

According to the Cuban phone company official Maximo Lafuente Vazquez, about 300,000 lines already existed on the island before April 14, when President Raul Castro’s new government lifted the restriction on service.

Pricing remains the problem, though. A mobile phone contract costs about $120 to activate, which is about half a year’s wages on the average state salary.

Palm Foleo to resurrect with WiMAX connectivity?

By Dusan Belic on Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 at 6:44 PM PST
In Devices, Palm, Rumors

Palm Foleo

There’s a chance Palm (NSDQ: PALM) will revive its “mobile companion” Foleo. According to The Register, the Treo maker could release the discontinued device with WiMAX radio to make it work with Sprint (NYSE: S)’s XOHM network.

Apparently, Palm has recently invited beta testers which are at the same time existing smartphone owners to test an “innovative new product.” I don’t see much innovation in the upcoming Treo 800w as some of the HTC devices on the market sports all of the features the future Treo should have. In addition, such requirements as “heavy to medium e-mail user” and “travel for work with their phone” suggest something’s more at stake here.

Now if only Palm could price it correctly and use the proper CPU in the Foleo 2 — i.e. Intel Atom — I would instantly buy one. Finally, it should be marketed as a sub-notebook like the Asus eeePC, rather than a “mobile companion” to convince people there’s much more you could do with it, rather than just check the email…

AT&T multi-cultural print ads look awesome

AT&T multi-cultural print ads

AT&T (NYSE: T) has created a multi-cultural print campaign, featuring painted hands that represent cultural and historic traits of Egypt, China and Japan. We’re not sure what’s exactly the idea behind the ads — except maybe to prove AT&T is all about diversity — but we love the way they look, nevertheless. BBDO is behind the eye-catching campaign and I guess we should ask them what’s the point… Anyway, few more images follow after the jump. Enjoy!

iSwish - yet another iPhone-like UI for Windows Mobile smartphones

By Will Park on Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 at 6:28 PM PST
In Announcements, Applications, Windows Mobile, iPhone

If an open-platform packed with power and backed by a huge developer community is your thing, then you’re probably rocking a Windows Mobile device. Sure, there are complaints of stability and what-not, but chances are that your solid Windows Mobile device has started to stumble every now and again due to the same third-party applications that make the platform so appealing in the first place.

So, how are you going to scratch that itch for a fun and innovative interface like that on the iPhone? Why, put the iPhone UI on your Windows Mobile device, of course. The latest method to put the iPhone’s multi-touch UI is Flick Software Research’s “iSwish” and “iZoom.” Flick Software Research is set to launch its iSwish UI and iZoom applications in beta-form in early May.

It’s a complete rip of Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s iPhone UI, but hey, if you can’t beat ‘em, copy ‘em.

Verizon Samsung Glyde planned for May 9

By Will Park on Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 at 6:15 PM PST
In Devices, Rumors, Samsung, Verizon

The month of May sure is shaping up to be an exciting month indeed. To help kick off the summer season, Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is apparently planning to launch the much-anticipated Samsung Glyde on May 9.

As you’ll probably recall, the Samsung U940 Glyde features a full-body, pressure sensitive touchscreen and sliding QWERTY keyboard. We’ve been waiting to get a crack at the Samsung Glyde. The full-HTML browser should make quick work of browsing the web with the Samsung Glyde’s 3G radio. Of course, the pseudo-haptic feedback that I have lamented time and time again will also make its way to the Samsung Glyde U940. It’s useless to have the entire device vibrate upon a touchscreen input, whereas having a localized vibration in the area of touchscreen input would provide far more tactile feedback. Still, some feedback is better than no feedback - especially if it’s done in an intuitive and gradated method.

Samsung U940 Glyde

Word has it that the Samsung U940 Glyde will launch on May 9 with a $200 price tag on 2-year contract. A one-year contract gets you the Glyde for a still-manageable $370, while the outright purchase price will hit $420.

Dating DNA brings online dating web-app to iPhone and iPod Touch

By Will Park on Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 at 5:38 PM PST
In Announcements, Apple, Applications, iPhone

Dating DNA for iPhoneWhy not use that sexy iPhone in your pocket to get in touch with sexy members of the opposite sex? Well, DNA Dating has announced their new web-app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that gives iPhoners access to the new online dating network wherever, whenever.

Simply point your iPhone’s Safari browser to http://www.datingdna.com/iphone and start browsing photos of other compatible singles on your iPhone. Profiles are served up using a compatibility scoring system - your “dating DNA” - to help increase the chances that you’ll run into someone you’re likely to vibe well with. When you find a possible match, add them to your “DNA Strand” to make a future contact or just keep their profile handy.Dating DNA for iPhone

Dating DNA is based on a person’s unique “dating DNA” identifier. Just like your double-helix DNA that determines everything from hair color to your susceptibility to certain cancers, Dating DNA helps you determine your compatibility with other singles by assigning a 9-digit “dating DNA” number to every user. The number is based on a questionnaire on the company’s website.

“Not only is it our desire to allow everyone to use their Dating DNA Number all across the Internet’s social graph, but we also want to make our services available on a wide array of Internet devices, such as the iPhone,” said Kevin Carmony, CEO of Dating DNA.
