MTV launches MTV 3.3 mobile phoneAhh, the MTV generation. It’s the generation that never gets old. There’s always a fresh batch of youngins ready to rot their brains with the drivel on MTV. So, what better way to capitalize on a demographic that can’t get enough My Super Sweet 16 than to release an exclusive MTV handset with 3G capability? What better way indeed.

France’s SFR has teamed up with ModeLabs, of Levi and Meridiist fame, to launch the first MTV-branded cellphone as an SFR exclusive. The MTV 3.3 mobile phone features Bluetooth 2.0, 3G data connectivity, 2.2-inch display, 2 megapixel camera, and media player – all wrapped up in a bright red package that’s sure to grab others’ attention. And, the MTV3.3 cellphone comes pre-loaded with MTV content like videos, logos. exclusive wallpaper, and original ringtones created by DJ Cut Killer and the MTV Cribs mobile game. The included HotScan application provides easy access to MTV news content.

French MTV fans can get in on the MTV craze on April 23 at a price of €49 (about $77). The MTV 3.3 handset will give 15- tp 18-year olds access to all content from France’s four MTV channels – “MTV,” “MTV Base,” “MTV Pulse” and “MTV Idol” – as well as two new channels created for MTV 3.3 customers – “MTV Scan” and “MTV Shake ton booty.”

With the MVNO fad dying off, an MTV-branded handset seems to be a reasonable way to enter the mobile phone game without the risk of a failed MVNO. It’ll be interesting to see how well the MTV 3.3 handset fares among the younger set.
