BT working on a “BlackBerry-style” hybrid handset?

BTUK’s top fixed-line carrier seems to want a piece of the mobile action. According to Times Online, the British giant is working on a “BlackBerry-styled” device that would do pretty much everything modern smartphones do with a little twist. Apparently, the upcoming phone will be sold as a part of the broadband package and will be able to “switch from BT’s wireless Home Hub indoors to Vodafone’s network on the move.” Sounds pretty much like T-Mobile’s HotSpot@Home service, at least to me.

And while we wait for the first images of the device, let me speculate for a second. Wouldn’t it be nice if BT opts for some open OS? Windows Mobile comes to mind instantly. Now if they could only deliver some decent specs, they may have a winner this time — which was not the case with their earlier effort called BT Fusion. We’ll see where this goes…
