It’s not like everyday we’re seeing Fido adding a USB modem — rather we see the Canadian GSM MVNO offering phones for youth and after all that’s the whole point of their offering, right? However, today (I guess) we’re glad to report Fido’s thinking youth also needs mobile Internet access with their laptop, hence they’re adding the HSPA-enabled Ovation MC950D USB modem. The device should enable downlink speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and uplink speeds up to 2.1 Mbps.
Aside from the tri-band HSPA radio, the Novatel Ovation MC950D also comes with quad-band EDGE support and includes all the drivers and manuals for supported OSes in the stick itself…
We’ve no word on pricing nor availability, but Rogers Wireless — also known as the owner of Fido — is selling the USB modem for $49. That’s with a contract, of course.
