We’ve already heard this may happen and now it’s official. MegaFon announced that it will carry the iPhone 3G in Russia. As usual with Apple iPhone announcements not much details were provided. All we have is “later this year” and we’re wondering does that means October or December.
Commenting on the news, telecoms analyst at UralSib Konstantin Belov said: “Typically Russian operators are not strong handset sellers, and users prefer to buy handsets separately from their mobile contracts. But the iPhone is very popular, and if mobile operators start subsidizing it, they will probably see strong demand.”
