New MVNO for Orange UK: Globalcell

Orange UK has enabled a new MVNO to run on it’s network – called Globalcell, the service is targeted at Eastern Europeans, who are living and working in the UK. The service offers customers a SIM-only pre-paid deal, with all customer interaction being delivered in native languages, such as Polish, Russian, Lithuanian, Slovak (and English).

GlobalCell is the first and only mobile operator aimed at simplifying the life of Eastern European guests and residents in this country by making the purchase, activation and use of mobile minutes easy and straightforward. We appreciate the importance of a competitively priced and easy to use mobile phone service. We offer our customers great deals on pre-paid minutes. Whether in the UK for work or simply to seek a new and better future, the GlobalCell mobile network helps our customers to realise their dreams. We deliver information directly to our customers in their own language about job opportunities, accommodation and special entertainment events. GlobalCell SIM cards can be purchased in the many shops, news stands, DVD rental kiosks and at social events serving the Eastern European community.

Orange now has a customer base of 2.5m across the MVNOs it provides a network for. If you add in Orange’s direct customers, that figure shoots up to 18.6m!

Ben Robinson

Ben is a 10+ year veteran of the Mobile industry – starting his career when SMS was a still a relatively new concept for most people (!), he has now consulted on everything from bleeding-edge Mobile content, to the next-gen accessories you might view it on. As a result he has a broad and deep knowledge in numerous areas of Mobile – from network operators to device vendors, to infrastructure and middleware vendors (not to mention content delivery) – and has worked for companies in all of these areas! He is based in the UK, a hotbed of activity for mobile, and recently became a father for the second time – as oppose to in his younger years when he was happy spend time tweaking all manner of mobile devices to 'nth' degree, he now looks for services and hardware that provide the most efficient, compact, and reliable improvements to his already manic life! It’s his opinion that Mobile solutions should be there to help to make your life better – if a particular solution (be it service or device) isn’t doing this, he believes you need to ask the very important question of why you continue to use it... His focus at IntoMobile is mainly on Mobile content, services, and infrastructure, particularly as regards the UK market – and with the occasional look at devices. Additionally, using his extensive experience in the industry, he will provide commentary on the industry at large, with regular (and hopefully thought-provoking) articles.

Globalcell looks distinctively dodgy. What can one say about a provider that can’t even register their own domain? Never mind not listing the call prices. Speaking lithuanian or slovak is an advantage? Grow up easterners coming to UK want to lear english in a first place.

    Hello All,
I spent 12 years setting up cellular phone systems all over the world. This includes China, Korea, Thailand, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Morocco, Egypt, and many other countries. Once, I got a phone bill from Vodafone when I was working in Morocco for over £1,000 for one month on roaming. I mean just for one month! I’m really glad that GlobalCell is here, it means that I can keep in touch with all my friends/ colleagues in places like Romania and Luxembourg for a very reasonable cost, no matter where I am. Let me tell you, the price that they charge you for a call is much, much more that it costs them! They are fleecing you and hanging you out to dry.I hope that GlobalCell get bigger, we really need them!

    Thanks,
    Steve
