Telefonica To Negotiate Huge Layoffs

You never like to hear about this kind of thing, but unfortunately it is a fact of life. Spain’s largest telecommunications company Telefonica is preparing to negotiate layoffs in the range of 700 or so employees within Spain. The layoffs are part of a ‘restructuring’ move in the company’s mobile division. ‘Restructuring’ could mean any number of things… I’m not even going to guess.

A spokesperson for the labor union received a request from Telefonica to lay off the workers the other day, and negotiations will take place to make the layoffs as amicable as possible. I’m hoping some of the folks out of luck can be re-located to new positions? We’ll see how this goes down…
