No More SMS Delivery Notifications on Verizon

Verizon Wireless has started ending their SMS delivery confirmations. You know the ones, the quick icon changes that happen when a text message has been delivered. If you appreciated the notification, appreciate no more. They’re gone. The discontinuation of this service reportedly started on the 9th of September on a regional basis. The switch should be complete in all regions by the end of this month.

Verizon has reportedly made this move to reduce their network traffic. For every text message sent, they had to send out the message data to the recipient and then send back the data with status info to the sender.

1KB of data per text message couldn’t possibly be a concern. Look for Verizon to add this feature as an ‘add-on’ to their valued customers. If I know one thing about carriers… They love ‘add-ons’.
