Can’t wait to get cracking on T-Mobile’s recently-launched G1? Well, the software development kit is ready to rock – go ahead and grab it while that Android Marketplace is hot. This latest build has a few changes, most notably some APIs to work with Google Maps’ Streetview. You can find lots more information on programming for the Goolge platform right over at code.google.com/android.

I gotta say that the development twist is what’s really going to set Android apart from the mobile platforms. No doubt there are already lots of programmers out there who are either frustrated with Apple’s restrictions on the app store, bored with BlackBerry’s stagnant SDK, or just looking for a change from Windows mobile and throwing their chips in with Android. Now it’s just a matter of the hardware coming out in a timely enough way to stay fashionable and grab the public eye. As good as HTC is at what they do, hopefully they won’t have a complete lockdown on the platform and a few other manufacturers will take a stab at Android.
