Another UK offer, and on this occasion, the time-limitation is “during this week” – however it is a good bargain, given you get a colour-screen, SIM-free Nokia for £24.99! MobileFun are the purveyors of this offer.
It seems miraculous that handsets are now at such a budget price – admittedly Supermarkets have been pushing prices down for a while. What I’d like to see now is where the bottoming out of prices occurs – I think (don’t quote me) that one UK Supermarket had a DVD player (another commodity) for about £18, and that was pretty much the limit on how cheap I have seen them – so do we think that Mobiles could cross that threshold too? I’m not talking about special offers or vouchers, rather just the normal cost a given unit is selling for in a shop. Who knows, we may even be there – readers if you’ve seen cheaper, whack a comment on to the end of the post!
If you want to check out the Nokia 1208 at MobileFun, go here.
Ben is a 10+ year veteran of the Mobile industry – starting his career
when SMS was a still a relatively new concept for most people (!), he has
now consulted on everything from bleeding-edge Mobile content, to the
next-gen accessories you might view it on. As a result he has a broad and deep knowledge in numerous areas of Mobile – from network operators to device vendors, to infrastructure and middleware vendors (not to mention content delivery) – and has worked for companies in all of these areas!
He is based in the UK, a hotbed of activity for mobile, and recently
became a father for the second time – as oppose to in his younger years
when he was happy spend time tweaking all manner of mobile devices to
'nth' degree, he now looks for services and hardware that provide the most efficient, compact, and reliable improvements to his already manic life! It’s his opinion that Mobile solutions should be there to help to make
your life better – if a particular solution (be it service or device)
isn’t doing this, he believes you need to ask the very important question
of why you continue to use it...
His focus at IntoMobile is mainly on Mobile content, services, and
infrastructure, particularly as regards the UK market – and with the
occasional look at devices. Additionally, using his extensive experience
in the industry, he will provide commentary on the industry at large, with
regular (and hopefully thought-provoking) articles.

Truth of the matter is that Mobile Phones like DVD players are actually very cheap to manufacture and we have all been paying for products that are over valued in relation to their “actual” manufacturing cost.
I call it the Big Mac Theory. i.e. A Big Mac only costs 20p to make (yep, that’s right! the meat, the cheese all the ingredients, etc..) but sold for £2.00.
It’s about time all these technological devices dropped their price. Also, mobilefun buy from the same suppliers as us and we are both paying 18 GBP (ex Vat) from DataSelect. (insider info)
