Possibly the best name ever for some AV kit?
Yes, it would appear as if I am typing random words in a string, but no, it really isn’t the case!
Advanced MP3 Players (AMP3) emailed me to let me know about the “Media Tank”, and this stoked my interest – it looks kinda cool, but what on earth is it?! Well, according to AMP3:
“it’s an all-in-one box that lets you connect to any source of video or audio, inside or through the internet. It’s the first product that combines all of the most exiting delivery technologies (IPTV, Streaming, Torrents, etc) with incredible support for your existing media collection in any file format. It has HD support, huge sound field support – in fact, if you can dream of it, the Media Tank has it.”
I think if you considered it a media hub with heavy-duty networking, connectivity, and HD capabilities, you be about there. Rarely for HD-compatible kit, it’s also at a very keen price – from what I have read on the Web, it could be about £185 when it comes out. Being DLNA certified too, you can get your Mobile device in on the action also!
AMP3 are going to be stocking it in a few weeks, with a hard disk – if you want to know more, click here.
You can also go to the official Popcorn hour site here.
Finally, you can check out CNET for a review of the hardware here.
Me personally, I am going to track one down once I find somewhere to put it, and a spare HDMI connector!!
Ben is a 10+ year veteran of the Mobile industry – starting his career
when SMS was a still a relatively new concept for most people (!), he has
now consulted on everything from bleeding-edge Mobile content, to the
next-gen accessories you might view it on. As a result he has a broad and deep knowledge in numerous areas of Mobile – from network operators to device vendors, to infrastructure and middleware vendors (not to mention content delivery) – and has worked for companies in all of these areas!
He is based in the UK, a hotbed of activity for mobile, and recently
became a father for the second time – as oppose to in his younger years
when he was happy spend time tweaking all manner of mobile devices to
'nth' degree, he now looks for services and hardware that provide the most efficient, compact, and reliable improvements to his already manic life! It’s his opinion that Mobile solutions should be there to help to make
your life better – if a particular solution (be it service or device)
isn’t doing this, he believes you need to ask the very important question
of why you continue to use it...
His focus at IntoMobile is mainly on Mobile content, services, and
infrastructure, particularly as regards the UK market – and with the
occasional look at devices. Additionally, using his extensive experience
in the industry, he will provide commentary on the industry at large, with
regular (and hopefully thought-provoking) articles.
