Video streaming service, Qik, today announced the alpha program for BlackBerry. Initial comments sound fairly hit and miss, but that’s testing for you. With one click, you can start streaming video from your Bold, Pearl, Curve or anything with OS 4.5 right to the internet. Qik on BlackBerry is something that I’ve been looking forward to for awhile, and I think between them, 12seconds and other burgeoning video services, BlackBerry is finally catching up to others in mobile video support. Maybe the BlackBerry Developer Conference opened up some vital APIs… To get started, hit up qik.com/dl/165 on your BlackBerry’s browser. You can expect the iPhone version to be coming soon, too…

Thanks Marin!

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement. With plenty of content under his belt, Simon will be branching off a bit to see what other smartphone manufacturers are working on while still using BlackBerry as a barometer.
