We had heard rumours of an Android handset coming to Japan, so it was safe to assume the same would happen to neighbouring Taiwan, but it’s disappointing to hear that they could be getting the same ol’ G1 that T-Mobile’s enjoying. A lot of us with high hopes for Android are holding out for more impressive hardware, and we would expect Taiwan, the very mecca of mobile hardware, to be able to crank out something a little snazzier than the G1. Expect the HTC G1 to drop on Chunghwa Telecom in the first half of ’09.

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement.
With plenty of content under his belt, Simon will be branching off a bit to see what other smartphone manufacturers are working on while still using BlackBerry as a barometer. At IntoMobile, you can count on his posts being even-handed, well-informed and thought-out.
