Remember a few weeks ago, all the rumors about the T-Mobile G1 hitting Walmart at a price cheaper than was available in the T-Mo stores? Seemed strange/fishy to me at the time, and I suppose the latest word here makes things a little more clear. Looks like the T-Mobile G1 is now available at Walmart, as you can see right here on their website.

Even more interesting is the fact that their website notes ‘Price varies by store’. Really? Also worth noting is the price (whatever it happens to be at your store) is valid only on a 2-year contract.

Rob over at Phandroid actually called his local Wally-world in Baltimore, MD asking about the price of the T-Mo G1. They told him that they do have it in stock, and for a price of $179.99. When Rob questioned the store about the $148.88 rumors, they ensured him again that at their store the price was set at $179.99.

So, I suppose it’s time to check out stores across the country to see if there is much in the way of price variation. What’s the price at your local store? The $148.88 as originally rumored? Or the standard $179.99 price tag?
