After much to-do and hype, the unlocked Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 will bring Sony Ericsson’s new flagship smartphone to the U.S. as of Black Friday (November 28th.) for $799.99 without subsidies at Sony Style locations nationwide. The pricetag shouldn’t be a huge surprise, since European preorders have been available since March. Aside from the executive construction and arc sliding, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1′s panel UI, which allows you to section off particular lifestyle modes, is the X1′s biggest attraction. With a full QWERTY keypad, a WVGA touchscreen, 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G, this Windows Mobile 6.1 device should be able to handle both business and pleasure with ease. For those eager beavers out there, you can get your preorder on as of tomorrow.

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement. With plenty of content under his belt, Simon will be branching off a bit to see what other smartphone manufacturers are working on while still using BlackBerry as a barometer.
