Now S60 3rd. edition Nokia handsets will be compatible with IBM Lotus Notes, bringing some 80 million owners direct e-mail access and other communication tools. Previously Windows Mobile was the only platform to work with Lotus Notes Traveler, but Nokia’s involvement brings a lot of communication capabilities to folks who can’t afford (or don’t want) a BlackBerry. Calendar and address book functions are also synced up with the Lotus server, complementing e-mail functions nicely. Push e-mail remains RIM’s home territory, but a little competition will help keep things lively.
