Palm To Make Traditional Holiday Workforce Cuts

Looks like it’s going to be another sad, sad holiday for some folks over at Palm. Last December they made cuts to their workforce, and this year it looks to be more of the same.

Palm InfoCenter has reported that the smartphone and software company will be letting go of quite a large chunk of their workforce. No details on the actual number of employees to be let go, or the date on which they’ll be given their notice. The workforce cutbacks aren’t going to be limited to the US either… Palm is looking to trim and cut costs wherever they can across the globe. A sign of the times.

Some commentary on the situation from Palm:

“The global economic downturn continues to dampen demand for consumer goods around the world, and the impact on the economic environment is worsened by our maturing Centro line and the length of time it is taking to ramp our new Windows Mobile products.”

Not good Palm, not good… I don’t even know where to start with that one.

With Palm continuing on its downward spiral for the past (geez how long has it been now!?) while, any bets on how long we’ll see the company pushing out new devices? Is the Palm Treo Pro the last hurrah? That might be a bit much, but in light of the current economic crisis going on… Anything is possible.
