Amazon.com is joining the world of the App Store with a new application added today. The app is designed to help users search and browse for products offered on the main Amazon site. It can also be used to search associated retailers including Target and Macy’s. Open it up, search for an item, and you’ll see all of the details, including customer reviews. If you’ve got the itchy holiday spending finger, you can purchase items and have them shipped to your door.

A new experimental feature within the app called ‘Amazon Remembers’ uses the iPhone’s built-in camera to help you create visual lists of things you want. Take a photo, and the iPhone app will upload the image to Amazon, where the service then tries to match it up to a product. From there you can buy it or save it for later within your account.

As I punched this post out I tried to find the app in the app store… with no luck. Could be that it has not yet been added, or perhaps it could be that the app hasn’t been added to the Canadian version of the app store. I would have to assume as much, as the app is keyed to work with Amazon.com, not Amazon.ca. Amazon, release a Canadian version of the app, would ya? :)
