T-Mobile’s follow-up to their consumer-oriented, Windows Mobile-powered “Shadow” is inching closer to actually seeing the light of day. The FCC has approved the T-Mobile Shadow II, as it’s known, for US duty.

The T-Mobile Shadow II has been expected to carry T-Mobile’s Windows Mobile Standard torch into 2009 with a refreshed design and a bump up to Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard (compared to the original Shadow’s WM6 underpinnings). And, with the FCC’s official blessing, T-Mobile is likely gearing up to launch the consumer-friendly Shadow II in the near term.

The T-Mobile Shadow II features the same slider design as its predecessor and supports T-Mobile’s UMA WiFi HotSpot calling service. Expect the T-Mobile Shadow II to be reasonably priced to compete with the slew of smartphones flooding the market in recent months.
