Mobile email company SEVEN just completed of over 1000 mobile email users world wide – over 300 in Europe. The research provides intriguing insights into how and why subscribers are using different types of messaging on mobile devices.

Key insights from the survey included:

  • Mobile email is being used even more than SMS or voice mail on wireless devices by SEVEN subscribers.
  • 12-key devices are being used as much as full key boards for email in Europe
  • Mobile email is being used for personal email even more than business
  • The lines between personal and business lives are blurring for mobile email users
  • Daily use of mobile email is high – 93% say they use it every day
  • Mobile email makes them more productive and reduces stress

Interesting, wouldn’t you say? My Moby email usage has crossed Nokia, RIM, and Apple platforms of late – and I’m still looking for one that does exactly what I want, and, is stable.

SEVEN is the mobile messaging software behind 3UK, Telefonica, Orange and many other European carriers. SEVEN powers mobile messaging for over 130 service providers worldwide and over 450 devices. What makes SEVEN different is they enable a very user friendly true push mobile messaging solution on a wide variety of mass market phones.

As you can see SEVEN, are the email enabler of choice for a number of OpCo’s – which to me gives the report both validity and weight of importance. Most interesting stat overall is the stickiness of Mobile email amongst those that do use it – 93% using it every day! And who said Operators were concerned about being bit pipes? With a decent volume of that data ticking away, they should be sitting pretty on a money pile!

Ben is a 10+ year veteran of the Mobile industry – starting his career when SMS was a still a relatively new concept for most people (!), he has now consulted on everything from bleeding-edge Mobile content, to the next-gen accessories you might view it on. As a result he has a broad and deep knowledge in numerous areas of Mobile – from network operators to device vendors, to infrastructure and middleware vendors (not to mention content delivery) – and has worked for companies in all of these areas! He is based in the UK, a hotbed of activity for mobile, and recently became a father for the second time – as oppose to in his younger years when he was happy spend time tweaking all manner of mobile devices to 'nth' degree, he now looks for services and hardware that provide the most efficient, compact, and reliable improvements to his already manic life! It’s his opinion that Mobile solutions should be there to help to make your life better – if a particular solution (be it service or device) isn’t doing this, he believes you need to ask the very important question of why you continue to use it... His focus at IntoMobile is mainly on Mobile content, services, and infrastructure, particularly as regards the UK market – and with the occasional look at devices. Additionally, using his extensive experience in the industry, he will provide commentary on the industry at large, with regular (and hopefully thought-provoking) articles.
