With the news that Sony Ericsson is jumping on board the Android-train, it’s not unsurprising to hear that the Japanese-Swedish mobile phone manufacturer is gearing up to launch their first Android OS-powered smartphones in Summer 2009. A new report from IDG.se suggests that the first Sony Ericsson handsets to run the Android OS will debut in the first half of next year.

Sony Ericsson will apparently be aiming their inaugural Android mobile phone at the high-end market, mirroring the company’s move to target their first-ever Windows Mobile device at the high-end market. It’s not clear if Sony Ericsson’s first Android offering will be part of the firm’s elite XPERIA brand. The XPERIA brand represents Sony Ericsson’s highest echelon of mobile phone technology, and if the upcoming Android handset is indeed aimed at the high-end, there may just be an Android-powered XPERIA handset coming down the pipeline.

Look for Sony Ericsson to debut their Android smartphone in summer 2009.
