As some sort of New Years’ gift (or something), Google has alerted the general public to an easter egg found within the Google Mobile app for the iPhone. There’s nothing too crazy included in the easter egg, but one feature I actually found quite useful… Keep reading and I’ll tell you about it.

So how do you uncover the easter egg? Click the ‘Settings’ button at the bottom right, and then continue to swipe up 7 or 8 times. A ‘Bells and Whistles’ menu should appear. Touch to enter the ‘Bells and Whistles’ area and you’ll notice some new options to play around with, including a theme color changer and a sounds option. The most useful feature added here is the ‘Open Links in App’ option. Turn this to ‘On’ and any links you click after a search will open up from within the App. Very useful.

If you don’t have the Google Mobile App for the iPhone or iPod Touch yet, you can get it here (iTunes Link Alert). Don’t worry, it’s free.
