Fans of the Treo Pro running on Big Yellow (Sprint) will have to wait a little bit longer for their device of choice. An internal memo going around at Best Buy notes that the Sprint Treo Pro will be delayed until February 15th. This all seems quite strange, as Best Buy have apparently received shipments of the Sprint Treo Pro as of January 22nd and 23rd. Despite having the device in-stock, the official launch has been put on hold until mid February.

Details on the why? of it all are really fuzzy, but there must be a darn good reason. You can head down to your local Best Buy to see if you can catch a glimpse of the device, but I reckon you’ll have better luck come February. When all is said and done, I figure you might as well wait for the Palm Pre anyway :)

The latest rumour has it that the “Pre” won’t launch until June. If this is true, Palm may have a real problem or two:

1 There is a rumour that the next major iphone update is coming in June as well which will likely deal with many of the phone’s shortcomings and make it seem better or as good as the Pre – and the update is free to those who already own an iphone

2 The new iphone update may well include a hardware update which will probably cost less than or the same as the purchase of a new Pre and again will likely include camera and other hardware improvements making iphone equal or perhaps better than the new Pre

3 Whenever the Pre launches, it is likely to be halted (probably only temporarily) by an injunction by Apple, allowing Apple to distribute their own update first

4 Interest in the Pre will deflate considerably if the launch isn’t until June AND iphone will have started advertising their own updates by then

If Palm even hopes to get a foothold, they better launch soon or it could be over before it starts.
