Windows Mobile 6.5 Alpha Screenshots Leave Me Completely Underwhelmed

Does Microsoft have the ‘right stuff’ to make the next version of Windows Mobile a winner? It would seem to me that they’ve got a steep hill, er, make that mountain to climb with the solid offerings of late from Apple, RIM and now Palm.

The screenshots you can see below are of Windows Mobile 6.5 Alpha on a Compulab Exeda. I’m no Win-Mo booster for sure, but I hope they achieve at least a moderate level of success with 6.5. There will no doubt be a huge following from the Treo and Windows junkies, yet I have a hard time getting excited over these screenshots. Good grief, couldn’t these be taken on anything else other than the Exeda? That thing reminds me of my old Game Boy. It’s so 1989-looking 😛

I’ve got to be fair though. It’s a little unfair of me to make any cruel assumptions based on a few screenshots. I’ll reserve judgment till I can get a Win-Mo 6.5 device in-hand… It’s Monday… and I’m feeling fair and just.
