By now we’re quite confident AT&T will add the Nokia’s popular E71 smartphone to its portfolio. However, we were surprised to see the screenshots above, nonetheless. They were taken by HowardForums member “bimmerd00d,” who purchased the E71x from Craigslist.
Apparently, just like some other Nokia models like the N78 and N96, AT&T’s version of the E71 will run the Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2, rather than Feature Pack 1 that is found in existing E71 models around the world.
Among the improvements of the Feature Pack 2 are redesigned Active Standby, screen transitions that make the interface look nicer, new Device Manager, as well as support for Destinations, which is somewhat of an access point prioritization feature.
Nothing is confirmed at this stage by neither Nokia nor AT&T. We can only hope this is true for one good reason – if AT&T users can get the Feature Pack 2 powered E71, we hope Nokia will release the FP2 update for existing E71 owners, who still have to cope with the Feature Pack 1. This is not to say anything’s wrong with the “standard” E71 – it’s just to say that we would love to get our hands on the even better Nokia E71, all in its Feature Pack 2 glory.
