london-policeThe London Police have introduced a new service that allows the use of mobile devices to contact local police. The new service allows anyone to alert the Metropolitan Police Service to crimes and just general badness via SMS. Although the system is said to be for ‘non-emergency’ situations, I hardly think the Police are going to ignore any emergency messages received. To use the new service, all you need to do is send your location, name, and what you witnessed to 07940 500 500. The service was created for those that are hard of hearing or have a speech impediment… But still, knowing the service is around and available, I’d gladly use it if I needed to.

Seems to me we’re noticing more and more instances of SMS/Messaging alert systems popping up as time goes by. Just last week I reported on a similar service offered by the Indian Train Police. The whole idea of this setup and service gets two big thumbs up from me. With more and more and more people carrying mobile devices every day, the more police and security forces can embrace and use technology… The safer and happier we’ll all be!
