Welp, it’s finally happened. The long wait for Mozilla’s answer to the third-party mobile browsers from Skyfire and Opera has finally come to a head with the release of Firefox Mobile (codename: Fennec), in pre-release form, on the HTC Touch Pro! We had expected the Fennec team to go live with their milestone release of Firefox Mobile last week, but hey, it’s better late than later.
The release of this Fennec alpha-build is a huge step for Mozilla, as the popular web browser developer grows its roots into the mobile space. At this time, the HTC Touch Pro is the only piece of WinMo kit that will work with the Fennec pre-release (which you can find here). But, it’s only a matter of time before Firefox Mobile (Fennec) hits other Windows Mobile smartphones. Sit tight!
Again, remember that this is an alpha-build of Fennec and, as such, won’t stand up to any scrutiny. Download the Fennec milestone release here, and feel free to let us know how you like Firefox Mobile!
