Kayak is a great site for figuring out how to get where you want to go in the world while keeping your airfare to a minimum, but when you’re stranded in a strange airport with a concerned customer service rep who doesn’t speak a spot of English, you’re going to need some help. Kayak’s app for iPhone now lets you browse for flights, hotels, helpful phone numbers, and even check on current fare trends right from your mobile. Ticket purchasing is unfortunately not included in the package, although the ability to call service agents is. Handy stuff, but I’m still partial to WorldMate Live on BlackBerry. It’s free, so why not load it up next time you’re airbound?

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement. With plenty of content under his belt, Simon will be branching off a bit to see what other smartphone manufacturers are working on while still using BlackBerry as a barometer.
