Designers, it’s time to get your mobile on…. er… Ok, I’m not sure what that means, but here’s the low-down on a new contest. LG Mobile has teamed up with online creative service marketplace crowdSPRING and 2D/3D design software leader Autodesk for a this year’s “Design the Future” design competition, open to US residents aged 18 or older. The contest invites the public to ‘imagine the future of personal mobile communication’ and design what they think will be LG’s next big-thing. In other words, envision an amazing device, and design it… Then LG will pay the winners and use the designs to build new devices down the road :)

LG is paying out big time for the winners as well – over $80,000 in total prize money.

  • 1st place nets $20,000
  • 2nd place will win $10,000
  • 3rd place wins $5,000
  • 40 awards of $1,000 plus an LG phone will be handed out as well. Lots of prizes, and lots of money.

As part of the competition, Autodesk will be giving out FREE 15-day trials of SketchBook Pro to all participants.

“We’re very excited about this competition because it gives consumers, professionals, students and design enthusiasts all a chance to exercise their creative imaginations and have their ideas be heard.  You don’t have to work for LG to make an impact on the future of mobile phones,” said Ehtisham Rabbani, V.P. of product strategy and marketing for LG Electronics MobileComm, U.S.A, Inc.

To get started you’ll need to review the official call to entries page to get a full overview of what you’ll need to do. Submit entries to crowdSPRING. Winners will be announced July 7th right here. Looking forward to seeing the results of this contest for sure.

Good luck to all that participate!
