Google dreams of an ‘answer phone’ in everyone’s pocket

This is how Google is going to take over the world. The search engine giant has made huge leaps towards mobile services in the recent past. Google is pushing to do for the mobile industry what it did for the internet – they’re trying to revolutionize they way we use our mobile phones. But, what sparked the push? Vic Gundotra, Google’s VP of Engineering, recalls the moment when his daughter referred to his cellphone as the “answer phone.” She realized, at just 4 years old, that the mobile phone in her dad’s hand was the key to finding the answer to any and all questions, anywhere and anytime!

Having a web-enabled mobile phone, preferably a smartphone, puts the entire globe’s knowledge-base in the palm of your hand. Literally. You can look up friends’ Twitter profiles to see what they’re eating for dinner. You can look up directions to the nearest all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant. You can even find out the lowest price on Pogs with Google’s mobile-optimized product searches. There’s probably no question you can’t find the answer to by using your smartphone.

Fitting that a 4-year old already understands what much of the world has yet discover…
