MTS, aka Mobile TeleSystems has launched the first phase of its 3G network in Moscow. The network was launched in one of the largest expo halls in the city (and eastern Europe) named ‘Expocentre’. The exhibition hall is now blanketed with a WCDMA network providing expo-goers with download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps.
With this network now in place, MTS now plans to launch more 3G networks in the 35 largest business and shopping centers this year. Sounds like they’ll be busy. The expansion will also include 3G speeds for the Domodedovo International Airport, and some surrounding cities in the Moscow region including Noginsk.
Did I mention MTS is going to expand its 3G network to the underground railways in Moscow as well? Yep, they’ve received permission to do so and work on a test network will begin shortly if it hasn’t already.
