Archie has arrived in App form via the Apple App Store. In a free app titled ‘Archie: Freshman Year #1′, we get a full color, 62 page Archie comic that is easy and fun to read. This freebie is part one of a five part series… So if you get hooked on the comic, it’s looking like subsequent volumes will set you back $0.99 per copy (bummer!). Volume #2 (iTunes link) is already available in the App Store at this price.

Getting back to the first volume here, the story behind the first edition of the series is a look at the ‘summer before’ Archie and the gang take on their freshman year in high school. All of the classic Archie characters are involved, from Jughead Jones to Principal Waldo Weatherbee.

Reading the comic is as easy as swiping your finger across the screen to turn pages. You can even change the page transitions from the default ‘slide’, to ‘fade’ or ‘curl’.

If you grew up reading Archie, or just need something fun to read in those moments of down time, Archie: Freshman Year is very much worth a look. It’s available for free right now in the App Store (iTunes link).

Note: For the Archie aficionados, this volume was originally published as Archie #587.
