The new iPhone 3GS has been unveiled with the upgraded guts to fend off the likes of the Palm Pre from overtaking its smartphone throne.

The iPhone 3GS proved to be more of an evolutionary update to the iPhone 3G, than the game-changer that we had hoped Apple would launch. The iPhone 3GS sports a faster processor and double the RAM (256MB) of the iPhone 3G, allowing for at least twice the number-crunching performance as the iPhone 3G. And with an upgraded 3.0-megapixel camera with auto-focus video recording, the new iPhone 3GS is a solid smartphone.

Still, the all-new Palm Pre is seriously threatening the iPhone’s dominance as the most popular consumer smartphone in the US. The Palm Pre’s 600Mhz ARM Cortex A8 processor has what it take to speed the Pre through daily tasks. And the WebOS’s ability to truly multi-task and run applications in the background gives the Palm Pre a very tall leg-up on the iPhone 3GS and it’s Push Notification system. Don’t forget that the Palm Pre has been selling like hotcakes across the US.

What say you, dear reader? Is the iPhone 3GS enough to keep you enchanted, or has new Palm Pre’s multi-tasking siren call already captured your heart?

Well none of iphone or palm are real smartphones so I say the Nokia N97 or the E71

  • Pachi

The palm and apple’s OS destroy symbian away. And they are smart phones you duck.

  • Thomson

haha ok , turn on your frontcamera in your smart iphone and we can have a videocall eye to eye , if you dare .
oh sorry I forget you not have one

  • Tom

Sorry Thomson, but that’s a pretty weak argument. Front facing video camera has nothing to do with a phone being a “smart phone”. Based on available applications, user interface, and near full personal computer functionality, all three of these phones are far superior to any product Nokia has released.

Face it, Nokia’s Symbian product are on the way out, even if they have a huge market share now they wont for long as the rest of the world starts to realize that the user experience is so much better with the alternative devices like the iPhone, Pre and G1. Nokia is only holding on by sheer momentum at this point.

The iphone 3GS is superior to the palm pre in nearly all specs, however, the palm pre does have a keyboard.
