Right, so you’ve had my perspective on what 3GS launch day was like in the UK, now howzabout we take a look at what other report(ers) made of it?

First up, it’s my buddies over at Electricpig – they were at the Apple’s flagship store in Regent Street, London. And I have to say, the queue of people wasn’t very impressive, judging by the pics (see above). At the Carphone Warehouse, which is the independent mobile store in the UK that is allowed to sell iPhones also, there was only a queue of two apparently!

This only serves to add to my general suspicion that people are just not going to eat any of the three options for getting the iPhone:

* get a new expensive contract for the iPhone

* buy the device outright

* buy yourself out of existing contract

Whichever way you cut all of the above, they all cost loads! Probably the cheapest overall is to but the device outright, but you’d have to have an existing O2 iPhone contract to make use of ALL the features….

Next, on to Pocket-lint, who are reporting that O2 have said the 3GS is selling quicker than the 3G version of the iPhone! Say what?! O2 are also saying the black version of the device is selling quicker than the white… double say what?!

So the info from O2 directly contradicts that which we’ve seen up to now – both from direct experience, and from our good buddies on the InterWeb reporting.

Who’s right? What are the actual stats of what has been sold? Well, we’ll only find that out when O2 and Carphone release their stats – and I’d bet on that happening maybe next week, then again (revised) in say 3 months’ time. At that point we’ll see just how popular this 3GS-thingy is!

Thanks to Ben@Electricpig and our very own Simon@IntoMobile for the double heads-up!
