Real has just announced a new app called RealPlayer SP that allows users to capture internet video and convert it to a wide range of mobile devices, including iPhone, BlackBerry, and Sidekick, as well as share them via Facebook and Twitter. For a free app that lets you rip your favourite YouTube videos AND format them properly for mobile, RealPlayer SP is a pretty sweet ride. I had my first glimpse of this app back at WES, and could definitely see me making use of it for video podcasts. Full-sized videos really don’t work on mobile, and even if you’re lucky enough to have a low-quality option, it really seems like a waste on some of the great screens out there these days; hopefully RealPlayer SP will be able to optimize video without making such sacrifices. The beta is a free download, but fancy features like DVD playback/burning and h.264 video conversion will cost you $39.99.

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement.
