Cue The Violins: HTC Hero Not Coming to T-Mobile U.S

Our man Daniel is with T-Mobile in New York this morning regarding their upcoming myTouch 3G (a.k.a the HTC Magic, reviewed thusly), and when asked about the HTC Hero which has had everyone a-gaggle lately, they replied openly that there are “no plans” to pick it up. It kind of makes sense, since the Hero would really blow the myTouch 3G right out of the water before it even had a chance to get released, but it’s still pretty sad that such a wonderful chunk of technology won’t be coming to the U.S. in the near future. Well, that’s not entirely true – since the Hero’s already gone through the FCC, it’s possible that AT&T will pick it up, that is, if they can rip themselves away from the iPhone for a microsecond. Abroad, however, T-Mobile will be offering the HTC Hero in the UK, if you happen to be on that side of the pond. I wonder what the story is in Canada – it would be pretty sweet if Rogers offered it, but it’s looking like for the time being, the Hero will be staying in Europe.

    Would an unlocked HTC Hero bought in the UK work in the US on T-Mobile with a new sim card? What would work and what would be broeken?

    In a way I’m kinda glad T-Mobile USA isn’t going to get this phone. For some people looks ARE every thing when it comes to gadgets. It was the G1′s ugly looks that kept me from buying that phone although I was really interested in the Android OS it used. I wouldn’t have wasted my money on the Hero either because let’s face it… the design of that phone is just downright not good.
