In this demo of the final build of Windows Mobile 6.5 Windows Phone due out before the end of the year, we see a lot of stuff that’s old hat (My Phone, Marketplace, Flash support in IE), but some of the commentary near the end is particularly interesting, including the notion that versions 6.5 and 7 will be supported concurrently, which is precisely why Microsoft has decided to ditch the Windows Mobile brand and go with Windows Phone across the board. They’re still apparently working on multi-touch with hardware manufacturers, and it’s not sounding like we’ll see it on 6.5. Version 7, however, is more hopeful for multi-touch, as it’s described as “a premium hardware experience” and in the future we’ll enjoy Windows Phone supporting “any experiences you see on some of our competitor’s devices today”. That’s marginally promising, but it better happen soon, since Android is already moving forward with gestures and multi-touch in their next update.
