sms-spamThailand’s 3 mobile networks (AIS, DTAC and True Move) are teaming together to block SMS spam sent over their networks. SMS spam must be quite a big problem over there for these 3 carriers to team together in such a move… a move that will cost THB 30 million (roughly $880,000 USD) in spam-fighting software.

The measures are expected to block 90% of the 10 million *double take* yep, 10 million spam messages sent every day. Customers of the networks will be able to opt-in to the spam-blocking system to have their messages filtered once things are up and underway.

Once complete, Thailand should theoretically be SMS spam-free, as the three operators represent 98% of the country’s total mobile user base. Let’s hope things work out swimmingly.
